May 1936 - May 1937. 12 photographs - 22.5 x 17 cm. Oblong 8vo. Modern brown cloth. The photographs show the construction of the Capper Pass tin smelting works at Melton during 1936 and '37, starting with trenches in an empty field through to an aeriel shot of the finished site. The site was acquired by the company in 1928 but the Depression delayed the project. The civil engineers were Sir Alexander Gibb & Partner, they built the plant, including housing for workers, for £170,000. The plant was acquired by Rio Tinto in 1967, the 200 foot chimney, as shown in these photographs was replaced by a 600foot chimney in 1971. The plant was closed in 1991 and decommissioned.
