The cloth has been stained slightly unevenly to return it to its original bright red colour. p161/162 bottom corner of page missing not afecting text. Preserved in a bright red calf and cloth solander box. Inscribed by Stoker on the half title 'Mrs Leycester with most kind remembrance of Bram Stoker Christmas 1890' Dalby 5(a) Stoker's first novel published 18 November 1890, pric 6s. Serialised in The People earlier in the same month.
